Of all those, the only one I've seen is Ghost Town and I can second the recommendation. The critics seemed a bit unkind to it, but very unreasonably so, as it was a very enjoyable experience for Charms and me. It had quite a few more laughs than your typical romantic comedy and often zags where you expect it to zig. As you might expect, Ricky Gervais is a laugh riot.

i have to say, the best film i've seen recently is 'the wrestler' - i can't find a single fault with that movie. all the acting was impeccable and the direction was so brilliantly restrained. a definite triumph. biggest disappointment for me was benjamin button. technically top-notch but the story and script left me a bit cold, not to mention the length. looking forward to 'milk' too.

The wrestler was perhaps the best movie I watched in a long time. I totally agree on Benjamin Button being a let down, it was so long winded and so slow and you could see certain things from a mile away.

Am hoping to make this a regular thing, as I noticed now I tend to forget good movies I watch.

In Bruges was rather enjoyable, even though i'm not a big fan of Colin Farrell's. But i have to admit, if he's cast to play an Irish bloke, it's quite entertaining.

My recommendation would be Defiance, even though many critics will tear it apart. It's somewhat of a light version of Idi i smotri aka Come and See.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona was fantastic - doesn't play like a Woody Allen movie at all - for those who are turned off by the director. Also a great travel ad for Barcelona.

I've seen so few movies this year I really want to see Frost/Nixon and the Wrestler though, definitely heard good things!

I also liked Milk a whole lot, especially as a period piece for a time and place I really didn't know much about.

Great list, Farhad. I'm certainly adding some of those suggestions to my NetFlix queue. I hear The Wrestler is amazing, and Rourke gives his best performance. That's a lot of hype to live up to! In Bruges was a surprisingly good flick. The trailers mislead me into thinking it would be like a Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels type movie, so I didn't want to see it at first.

I wasn't a fan of Ghost Town. It was a chick flick wrapped in a comedy. Gervais was great in it, though. And, Slum Dog Millionaire was great, but I think it was hyped too much. It's not Oscar worthy in my opinion. [/two cents]
