Well, the full story here is that I was already trying to get into the active reserves to do a 30-day assignment to Hawai'i. I have a brother who lives there, so it would be a sweet gig.
I talked with my prior service recruiter after I got the letter, and he told me that by "you will be screened for eligibility" it means "unless there's a valid reason you can't, you will."
And then he went on to tell me that since there's no reason I shouldn't be accepted for the assignment to Hawai'i, then that trumps the mobilization.
We'll see.

And that must be a new one. Last time I was in Kuwait it was February 2005 - I was at Camp Victory, I believe. I was at Camp Virginia on the way in.
Yeah, I did four and four - though I spent a year in the DEP so I only had to serve three in the IRR. I got out June of 07 so they own me until June of 2010.

Camp Arifijan is to the South of Kuwait City, near the Ali Al Salem airbase and serves as a logistics base, motor pool, helicopter support base and repair base for any elements in the Southwest Asian Theater.
Camp Victory is located near the Baghdad International Airport, this is where most of USO come through, also features a Subway and Pizza Hut.
I wonder where they do deployments now. Makes sense to just shuttle people into Baghdad but I don't think that is possible logistically.
You have a hunch something bad is going to happen.. it probably is. At least that's what they told me at sec training.

Hey! I was DEP but I never received credit for that time. Damn, 2010. That's not too far away. I think mine ended in November of '99. Damn, I'm old. Well, gunner, you keep your head up and think about how the rest of us will be silver and gold crowns when you come back to the Sift.
Camp Virginia is to the North of Kuwait City in an area called Jahra, I guess it was the staging ground and crossing point for the maneuver warfare plan of General Mattis and coalition forces because it's the closest point to entry into Basra, Nassariya and the oil wells.

Hmm.. maybe it wasn't camp Victory. I was in Kuwait both before and after.
[edit] I'm pretty sure it was. I see Victory closed in 2006. I was there in 2005.
