There Are No LOLCats at the Animal Hospital
posted by blankfist 2 months 1 week ago • 355 views
My cat, Maceo, started acting lethargic Friday night and stopped eating altogether. By Sunday, things had gotten worse, so I took him to the local VCA Animal Emergency Hospital. He was hospitalized for renal failure, which basically means his kidneys are failing him. He was so terribly dehydrated his blood pressure dropped so low the Vet could barely pull blood from him.

Here are two pictures of a very tired Maceo being fed interveniously in his hospital cage. The going rate for treatment in this particular VCA hospital is $1600 for the first night and $600-800 each subsequent night.

Inside the "Animal Ward", the animals were generally sad. Dogs were wailing and cats were mewing. It's a very sad place. There are no lolcats in the animal hospital. None.

But, here are some happier pictures from a better time when Maceo was healthier! I'm particularly pleased with the shot my gf got of him wearing his Bellhop cap! Anyhow, I thought I'd share.

Sorry to hear about your poor kitty, bro. It's heartbreaking to see them suffer.

Thanks. When we saw him last night, he seemed to be more hydrated than he was Sunday when we dropped him off. That's very promising.

Poor Kitty. I work at a pound and there are a sadly low number of lolcats. Most of them are frightenedcats or sickcats who don't lol often. A lot of them are getting dehydrated like your cat because of the heat. I hope your cat gets better. IVs are a pain but they do often save lives.

Sorry about your kitty, blankfist. I hope he recovers. Did he used to tour with James Brown?

So sorry about Maceo. DFT and I are giving you two a virtual hug right now! Our thoughts are both with the sweet little guy during this difficult time.

Thanks e'rybody." He's a bit better tonight. They think he'll make a recovery in the next two days. I'll have to hang IV bangs for him the rest of his life, and it appears his life could be somewhere between a number of months to several years. He's a young cat, but he's also a full breed (aka inbred) so he's probably gonna see a maximum of 2 years and a minimum of who knows.

I'll just be glad to get him home. Thanks to all of you who gave their understanding and love. Thanks!

Reminds me of my cat Smokey. She was siamese and great. She had a kiddny infection about half way through her life, and got very ill for a few days, but with the vets help she pulled through. I think one of the kiddneys may have failed, but i cant remember the details now. She was back to being active after she recovered and lasted 13 years being loveable. I hope Maceo makes it too.

Here's an update for anyone who might be interested. Maceo's BUN and creatinine levels are down. What does that mean, you ask? Well, it means his toxins are lowering and he's gaining his strength. He looked ready to come home tonight.

inbreeding is cruelty
that hospital bill is insanity
