Thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a nice mix of nostalgia and re-imagining. Don't bother staying past the credits, there is no teaser for the next one - though I'd be surprised if they don't make another.

Simon Pegg was great as Scotty, and the Bones character was a very good Deforest Kelly impression.

As good as it was, if I were honest - I would admit that if I came into this movie knowing no Star Trek canon, it would seem very muddy and confusing. This is a movie for people who know Trek lore - and enjoy little moments of "aha, I see what you did there".

I do want to see this but I hate the prospect of packed cinemas. I'd pay for a DRM-download like you get on Xbox Live. Else I have to wait several weeks til the buzz dies down.

Actually was not that crowded at the Indooroopilly cineplex here in Queensland. So I'd recommend that one.

Queensland? You live in San Francisco?

I'll see the movie just for Simon Pegg...

I just watched a one hour, behind the scenes special, produced here in Canada, (Space Channel).

They said that the next movie IS ALREADY in pre-production but they are taking it slow so they can take into account, all fan comments from this release so they can "incorporate and learn" what the fans want!

Were there any kinky pon farr scenes?

After sleeping on it, my one criticism is that most of the Star Trek movies seem to be reaching for a super-evil "kahn-esque" villian. I wish they would do more of the "explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and civilizations" stuff than save the universe again.

^So what you're saying is that they need more pon farr scenes.

No pon farr, but I would love to see an updated take on Amok time in the next movie - as long as they used the original fight music.

^Don't forget the tri-ox compound.. oh wait. The lighter atmosphere of Vulcan won't be a problem now :-)

My kids LOVED it. They are big fans of Zachary Quinto from Heroes. We all enjoyed it.

I just saw it and L-O-V-E-D, loved it. I honestly know little to nothing about the show/movies, so I think I'm qualified to speak on behalf of the rest of the know-nothings and say it wasn't muddy or confusing in the least. I think it was wise to get JJ Abrams to direct (even though he's not too great a TV producer [he always starts great plots that he has no ability to follow through with]) because he also knew nothing of the original material, so he had to make a movie that would please the rest of us "ignorants."

Star Trek left this reviewer extremely satisfied.
