Someone "gifted" me a charter for 20 days. I think they did this only to get me hooked, like a dealer handing out that first hit of heroin. I used to tell myself I went into the Lounge because I liked the social atmosphere and it was okay, I could stop any time. But I was just lying to myself..

I just dropped twenty bones for 50 more days.

Impending Absence

My grandpa decided to stop his dialysis treatment, so he is not going to live to see December.  When he dies, I am not going to take it very well, so don't expect to see me around much until late 2008/early 2009.

Style the Sift

Using FireFox and the Addon Stylish or GreaseMonkey gives you the possibility of replacing a site's CSS with your custom StyleSheet. In short, you can restyle any given site to a certain degree. I played around with it a little bit, creating a custom style based on my charter css. Here's the result:

If you want you're Sift to look like this,  download this style here.

US: Laws You Dont Know About - and Liberties Provided by Them

DISCLAIMER: I am Not a Lawyer, do not take this as legal counsel.

Some States Are Open Carry States, Many States are open Carry States.  Why do you need to know? Because When You call the cops on these people, you only waste their time, and your Tax Dollars.

In The gold star States you have to understand that there will be people who carry, and the ones carrying openly are usually very law abiding citizens.  Do not fret over some one carrying a gun, because when you freak out you only cause the situation to become much worse than it is. If it is an open carry state, then you only succeed in making yourself look like a fool.
This is a controversial issue, but it is still a right in certian states. Just because you are afraid does not mean that they should have to forsake their rights. If you are scared, educate yourself, and understand.

If you feel Threatened by a person open carrying do not talk to them, and do not yell at them. Do not ever go for their gun. Just walk away, or keep walking by them, because the guys opencarrying are the ones you dont have to worry about.

Fear of Guns is unfounded, Fear of Poeple is founded.  Only a Person can kill a person.

Bath Tissue

I was watching MSNBC today and they had an ad for "bath tissue". I had forgotten that was the euphemism for TP in the US. Australia likes scatological humor - the toilet joke is king in the land down under - and I don't quite get it. What's funny must be more nurture than nature.

Rubio's New Gourmet Tacos
posted by blankfist 5 days 18 hours 27 minutes ago • 123 views

Rubio's Mexican Restaurant has just released four new gourmet tacos:

* Sirloin Steak
* Garlic Herb Shrimp
* Chicken
* Portobello & Poblano

Each of these tacos are served on warm corn tortillas topped with toasted cheeses, habenero citrus salsa, grilled sirloin steak, crisp bacon, cilantro, onion, cotija cheese, creamy chipotle picante sauce and sliced avocado. That's a mouthful. Literally. The Sirloin Steak (pictured above) and the Garlic Herb Shrimp are my favorite. If you happen to be by a Rubio's, be sure to give them a try, because I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how amazing a taco can be with bacon on it.

And, here it is ladies and gentlemen:

"Marine,

During October 2008, you attended or were excused from attending an Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) mobilization screening in Kansas City, MO. The purpose of this screening was to determine your eligibility for involuntary recall to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As you may recall, there had been a significant reduction in the Gaining Force Commanders’ (GFC) manpower shortfalls and it was explained that some Marines would receive orders and others would not.

Our records indicate that you were found qualified for involuntary recall and WILL be receiving orders for activation. It is anticipated that your orders will be issued in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, you are encouraged to begin or continue preparing for your upcoming mobilization.

Let me re-iterate, that you have been found qualified and WILL be receiving involuntary activation orders. If you have not received your copy of orders by 01 January 2009, you need to contact MOBCOM immediately."

Oh Joy!

[[Update]]

I applied for a school seat to get a new MOS with the active reserve. If that happens, then I don't get recalled to anywhere. I join the reserve unit here in town, and the best thing of all is that I get a $15,000 bonus.

So here are my two choices:

Involuntary recall

  • 100% chance that I will be deployed and get shot at
  • Don't get paid at all until deployment
  • No bonus

Join Active reserve

  • (less than)100% chance of deployment
  • Monthly pay (~$300) for weekend drills
  • $15,000 bonus

The downside of the Reserves? I'm qualified to have literally any job in the entire military, but the unit in town here is bulk fuel. LAME.

I find out Monday if I'm approved for the school seat in three weeks. Preliminary word is "yes".

Trader Joe's Candy Cane Joe-Joes!
posted by blankfist 6 days 11 hours 45 minutes ago • 140 views

If you live near a Trader Joe's, there's a cookie they only sell around the winter holidays called Trader Joe's Candy Cane Joe-Joes. To the untrained eye they probably look like a generic Oreo knock-off, but this is one quality cookie! Inside the cream there are crushed pieces of candy cane.

I'm not a big fan of Oreo's and I'm not a big fan of candy canes, but together they are magic. You must treat yourself before the holidays are over lest you will have to wait another year.

Is it any wonder that the monkey is confused?

This is probably the first serious blog in a long time. Feel free to make fun of me for being serious; I promise I can take it. In any event, I was active duty in the Navy from '91 to '94. Thanks to President Clinton, I was able to get out before my 4 year active duty term was up, but I still had to serve my full reserve term to 8 years which ended in 1999 just before I graduated college.

I was not a good fit for the military. ... more inside ...

Some of us may not be around for a while.

At least, I won't. I'm installing the new World of Warcraft expansion as I type.

Don't expect much from me in the next few days as I level all my characters up to 80.

We all have a secret vice and mine is mmorpgs! I'm also addicted to any live sort of shoot 'em up, like COD 4 or Halo. Any of you share this affliction?
