I'm Home YAY!
posted by swampgirl 9 hours 33 minutes 24 seconds ago • 39 views

Damn it was hot in S.C. The temp on a bank sign I drove by one day read 100 F. I don't miss that at all. I tried to sneak some neighbor's wi-fi a time or two, but never got a signal nice enough to sift.

My drive was uneventful. I had never noticed before how many crosses there are down there. There was a semi truck behind us once that had a large illuminated cross that covered the grill. Was this to save him from crashes? The kids and I made up songs and jokes to "Jesus Truck" for about 50 miles.

I must say Indiana has much better summer weather. I'm glad to be home.

Ok, time to dish. I want to hear all the stuff I've missed in the last 10 days

It lurks...
posted by uhohzombies 1 day 3 hours 34 minutes ago • 88 views

It's wild how different the sifter landscape looks! So many names I don't recognize in SiftTalk (and choggie banned again?!). I haven't been around, obviously, since my accident. Alas, I decided I don't have the time to try to find new media and fight to get it sifted anymore. I'm close to leaving for basic training and I was all caught up replaying Bioshock for the 3rd time, too. This is probably the end of my run. I'll go back to lurker status, but it was fun while it lasted. Thanks for everything guys and gals. See ya 'round.

Extra special 'shout-outs' to DFT, Issy, Schmawy, Kronos, and Critttter.

Also, thank you very mucha's to everyone who wondered how I was and wished me well in my recovery.

The question no one is asking McCain - and they should be.
posted by MarineGunrock 1 day 12 hours 48 minutes ago • 99 views
In response to criticism of his "Celebrity" ad, all the the McCain Campaign had to say is that it was "entertaining".

What people need to be asking McCain is this:

Americans are losing their very homes due to the economic crisis. Oil is at an all time high, and we have young men and women DYING in a war that the majority of the country does not want to be in, and all your campaign can do is crack jokes?

Edit

Also, I love how they say right in the commercial that he's the biggest celebrity in the world.
Think about that for a second.

The world hates America. We all know this. Yet they are all in favor of this man becoming America's president. The McCain campaign is eager to tell you the world loves him....

What a jackass.

Hackers
posted by karkarlee 1 day 17 hours 10 minutes ago • 73 views

Justin and I just watched the movie 'Hackers' together. It's his favorite, and it was my first time seeing it. And I gotta say - I understand now why it’s his favorite! It was made in 1995 and like the title suggests is about this one group of hackers. They get involved with some macho, money-stealing asshole when one of them gets some dirt on what he’s up to, and have to use their hacking know-how to save themselves from being framed and to get the truth out ( and the guy caught ). The interaction between all the characters is hilarious ( my favorite character being Emmanuel Goldstein, played by Matthew Lillard ) and not only that- Angelina Jolie’s tits flash across screen a total of what.. three times? Once covered, but barely.

This is definitely a movie for geeks, 'cause it involves some hilarious out-of-date computing ( toaster boxes, and believe it or not - a laptop with a 28bps modem! ) and a pretty ingrossing plotline.. And not only is the chick in the group hot and incredibly kickass, she’s rocker and played by a young Angelina Jolie. I highly suggest watching it.

LMFAHS - It's Official!
posted by lucky760 1 day 20 hours 25 minutes ago • 66 views
The acronym I coined 2 years ago has finally made its way to the official pages of the urban dictionary. Yay!
Now everyone knows the secret.

The funny thing is I have actually caught myself literally using the phrase in real life and stopped myself to correct it with "laughing my ass off" because it seems it feels a little funny at first. Then you slowly ease into it.

To top it off I have a custom license plate being made for my car that reads:

♥LMFAHS

I'll have to post a picture of that some time.

The Next Project
posted by dag 1 day 22 hours 20 minutes ago • 133 views

There's nothing like a new project. Lucky and I have decided on the next new thing to be built on the fabulous VaroCMS.

I wish I could share more. When it's even close to Beta, of course we'll want to get the Sifter stamp of approval before it's released to everyone else.. Please excuse my excitement but we think it could be a pretty big deal. And look, an iPhone-esque line is already forming!

More Lumpy Practice!
posted by NicoleBee 2 days 13 hours 50 minutes ago • 28 views

Started work on a new head study yesterday, from a re-topologized version of the 'Domini' Sketch, which was still just a edgelooped polysphere.. Thought I would sneak in a blog entry to stick progress pictures as I go. I should really take some time to make some Generic eyes later!

There Are No LOLCats at the Animal Hospital
posted by blankfist 2 days 19 hours 11 minutes ago • 127 views
My cat, Maceo, started acting lethargic Friday night and stopped eating altogether. By Sunday, things had gotten worse, so I took him to the local VCA Animal Emergency Hospital. He was hospitalized for renal failure, which basically means his kidneys are failing him. He was so terribly dehydrated his blood pressure dropped so low the Vet could barely pull blood from him.

Here are two pictures of a very tired Maceo being fed interveniously in his hospital cage. The going rate for treatment in this particular VCA hospital is $1600 for the first night and $600-800 each subsequent night.

Inside the "Animal Ward", the animals were generally sad. Dogs were wailing and cats were mewing. It's a very sad place. There are no lolcats in the animal hospital. None.

Interesting interview of a Palestinian convert to Christianity.
posted by Doc_M 3 days 1 hour 52 minutes ago • 33 views

Linked below is a interview by the left Israeli publication, Haaretz, of Masab Yousef, son of the West Bank Hamas leader Sheikh Hassan Yousef. He speaks of his childhood, Hamas, and his eventual, recent conversion to Christianity.

I'm not going to comment on it. It is an interesting read and a peak into a man who has had a unique life.

Update on my situation
posted by Obsidianfire 3 days 19 hours 23 minutes ago • 100 views
Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been around much, I've been busy with a lot of things. I've moved in with an old friend of mine from Omaha, NE. and things are hectic. The good news is that I've found a place to live, the bad news is that it's going to be tough getting everything situated for the big move. Anna and I'll figure it out, we always do.

Things always look tough, but it seems no matter what happens, if I have people who care about me, and we all try our best, then things work out. I'm really glad my friend in Omaha is such a nice guy, and I'm really glad my girl loves me so much. I don't know where I'd be without those two key things in my life.

I've noticed Anna is sifted a lot lately. Way to go baby! You're doing great, and I'm really proud of you! You're my everything, babygirl, and I'm always proud of how great you really are.

To everyone else here, thanks so much for the support. Sometimes people may not realise how encouraging words mean so much, but they do.

CrafterCircle
posted by dotdude 6 days 20 hours 26 minutes ago • 51 views

ArtCalendar, the business magazine for visual artists, has launched a site to appeal to the artists who work in media sometimes dubbed "craft." This new site is called CrafterCircle. However, all varieties of media are included - even computer related. The site is FREE. Here is my profile on this site. It is still new.

I've previously mentioned their first venture into social networking, ArtScuttlebutt. The two sites are very similar. And here is my profile on the other site. This site has a lot more folks using it now.

Earthquake Anyone?
posted by lucky760 1 week 2 days ago • 137 views
A strong, lengthy earthquake just hit near Chino Hills in southern California at 11:42am local time. It measured 5.6 5.8 5.4 and lasted for what felt at least 30 seconds.

I could actually see the building around me swaying to and fro. Whoa.

(Thank goodness this isn't China.)
