SK-Domini (v2-07)

A small update from my previous post - I'm thinking I may leave her at this stage, at least for now, and start another head study from scratch. Or from skull, since I've been aching to construct a head using the buildup method. It should be a good teaching exercise.

I may also continue to use her for painting practice.

Remeber when people cared for Ron Paul?
posted by blankfist 16 hours 29 minutes 50 seconds ago • 63 views
Not too long ago there was a huge Ron Paul following on the Sift. Now, It's hard to get a single vote for videos like this: http://www.videosift.com/video/Ron-Paul-on-the-Housing-Bill-72308

Those videos used to net a large vote percentage back four or five months ago. What happened? It seems like everyone drank the Obama "change" Koolaid and forgot about strong reformative policy. He drops out of the presidential race and now he's nobody? We're not all fence-sitters here, are we? I miss the days of pro-Ron Paul sentiments on the Sift.

"Spaced" a fine evening at the Arclight
posted by youdiejoe 20 hours 3 minutes 6 seconds ago • 38 views

I went to a special screening of "Spaced" the BBC series that aired in the UK back in 1999-2000 here in Los Angeles tonight. What a treat! They are promoting the release of the series (finally) here in North America on DVD. I snagged my copy when it came out on DVD in the UK (thank you Amazon UK).Where do you suppose that I was introduced to this UK import? Right here on the Sift!

The perk of going to a theater tonight to watch 3 episodes of this show that I have already watched is that actor/writers Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes along with director Edgar Wright were there to watch and to do a Q&A afterward all moderated by Kevin Smith (baked like a honey glazed ham). They showed 3 fan favorite episodes (as voted on by fans) back to back.

It was a free event, just had to wait in line (I waited maybe and hour and twenty) and it was a "sold out" and very ethusiastic audince. A nice plus and very cool moment came as Simon Pegg, Jessica Hynes and Edgar Wright walked down the waiting line and said hello to everyone and Hi 5's around! Class act all the way.

So do yourself a favor and pick up or rent a copy of "Spaced" and enjoy.

I have included a clip from the 3rd episode they screened this evening (which is the clip that got me to buy the series in the first place).

Is there anyone in the Tampa/Clearwater/ST. Pete Area...
posted by Obsidianfire 1 day 1 hour 57 minutes ago • 81 views
That can give me a place to stay. I'm gonna be on the streets Saturday, and now my landlord is threatening me with violence. There are no homeless shelters for men in this area, so I literally have nowhere to go.

Ron Paul totally looks like Magneto from the X-Men

For some reason I love comparison shots of famous people. Finally someone came up with the idea of dedicating a website to them after photos like this have been on the internet for years: http://totallylookslike.com/

Life is grand. I have 3 days to pay my landlord $1,000.00 or I'm on the streets with no place to go. Apparently my roommates have also complained about me being messy to the landlord, but yet not saying a damn word to me about it. I'm gullible sometimes. I always trust people I probably shouldn't trust, and end up getting the boot for it. Sigh.

I don't have it anymore. I posted on craigslist and it must've made it to the WoW forums because I got inundated by like 25 replies overnight.

The Evil Empire Was Defeated

We have a 2001 Saturn station wagon that we are planning to milk for every mile possible. For the last year, the heater has been on again and off again. In Alaska, "off again" in the Winter is a disaster, the window turns into a sheet of ice and you bring an ice scraper to scrape your frozen breath from the inside of the window every 3 minutes. With the whole family in the car, it's full time scraping. If we were lucky, the heater would run for a few minutes every hour and defrost the windows. Saturn said about $700 to replace the wiring harness.

Well, I bought a new EOS 40D camera over the last couple days and was catching some flak about spending money on non-essentials when the car needs repair etc. So I decided to finally pull the dashboard, the radio, the vents, the heater (took about 10 minutes is all actually), and sitting directly in view, right in front of me, is a burned wire. I open the connector it's on and find it's melted inside it. I tap the connector and the heater comes on. Tap it again, heater goes off.  One pair of wire snips and 20 minutes later, I've got the wire cut off the burned connector and jumpered with a wire-nut.

$700.... $700 my ass. Total repair cost was 5.12 cents and maybe an hour of time total (including doofus factor that Saturn wouldn't suffer.) I really do despise that dealership.

Randy 17

sigh.... 17 years old.... MEM-REEEEEEES Like the COR-NERS of my MIIIIIIIND.

I have started a massive online dump of my photos folder onto my Flickr account as to preserve the past and enable the sharing with the families and the friends. I will have to dole it out over the next several days and weeks I'm sure (10GB of pics) but gives peace of mind to have a place to save these in case of disaster or moments of selective/revisionist history.

**Update** here is a close up for the buttons.... sorry it's no where near as cool as the speculated buttons

2,867 miles? That's nothin.
posted by MarineGunrock 4 days 20 hours 38 minutes ago • 101 views

So yeah. Gotta make that trip by m'self August 9th. I'm moving to Tempe, AZ - and I'm sure as shit gonna be miserable as soon as that heat hits me.
Not really looking forward to making the trip, but I can't wait to get there for a few different reasons.

I'm kinda nervous about moving to an area that's completely new to me - I've never even been to Arizona before. And it's a huge city (metro area = 4.5 million) Whereas the biggest city I've lived in is about 60,000 people.
At least I have family in Maryland and Misouri to stop at so I won't have to get a hotel. I'm kinda screwed from there though. I've considered taking a cot and sleeping on the side of the road somewhere near/in Amarillo, TX so I don't have to fork out a ton of cash for a hotel. But it will probably be hot as hell.

I guess I'll see what happens then.

A hypothetical

If the USA had preempted Pearl Harbor, might the reconstruction of Japan have turned out as badly as present day Iraq?

The sheer propaganda value one gains by being on defense vastly outweighs any small military advantage that might be obtained through preemption.

Dr. Horrible (Joss Whedon, Felicia Day)

Stolen shamelly from Penny Arcade

//:-

I didn't post a link to it because I see links to it everywhere, and you've already seen it anyway, because you're a cool person who is perpetually in the know. Even so, I couldn't take the chance, because the one thing most links to Dr. Horrible don't include is a dire warning about its ephemeral nature.

That's correct: it will be dragged off the Internet very soon, to be placed on a DVD and made available for purchase. Parts one and two are already avaiable at the site, and part three comes out on Saturday. After that, it all gets pulled down on Sunday. It's a supervillain musical written by Joss Whedon, starring a bunch of awesome motherfuckers.

Why are you still here.

He's right. I would be failing you if i did not do the same.

Mutant Enemy Productions (Joss Whedon)
Starring:
Neil Patrick Harris
Nathan Fillion
Felicia Day (*- We like her in The Guild)

Available on iTunes for a couple of dollars each, 3 parts. or free on the site right NOW.

Go there. Uses some kind of Hulu powered thing that works for me in the UK

What is Plurk?
posted by dotdude 5 days 20 hours 56 minutes ago • 54 views

One of the downsides of Twitter is that the site is often down. Some of us, in our frustration, have turned to another site called Plurk. It has similar features, but it set up for threads.

Here is the FAQ. There is a blog that chronicles features that are added.

Plurkers seek higher states of karma. The higher you go, the more perks you earn - including more lively emoticons.

Plurk highlights Interesting Plurkers.

Here's my profile on Plurk.

Some new features were just added on Friday. I'm still learning about how the site works, too.
