Is it so wrong to love a camera?
posted by youdiejoe 2 months 3 weeks ago • 258 views

I just picked up my new dream camera the Nikon D90, A DSLR that can also shoot 720p video at 24fps....droooooool. I took this shot the first night I had the camera along with some video. The video is strictly test stuff, raw with no editing, but DAMN!

Very nice new toy. Looks like a great camera. Looking forward to more from it.

I've still never been to Griffith, but I am cursed because every time I think of it I remember the Charlie's Angels fight scene there with Demi Moore.

hehe...It's two different films that I always remember when I'm up there "Rebel Without A Cause" and "The Rocketeer"

It's hard to tell looking at a small vimeo video, but the darks look deep in low light, which is really nice. Did you treat the contrast at all, or is this raw? If it's raw, that's pretty amazing. Have you tried the Casio EX-F1? It's supposed to be a pretty sweet camera that shoots 1200 fps.

raw, no color correction, nuthin'. You should click through to vimeo and look at some of the other examples, pretty fricken sweet.

I had the Samsung equivalent of the Casio for about 12 days before I returned it, not enough manual options.

I been very interested in this camera, though the price is just bloody ridiculous especially since I don't do photography for a living.

The night scene looks great but not as great as the official videos showed it, the noise that is showing is that Vimeo compression? Can you see on the original file? That is still very impressive though, a few good area lights and it would be gone. How long can you shoot video for?

I need to do more filming again...

This is the Casio I was talking about. Is that the same one you were thinking of, YouDie? The D90 looks awesome. Keep shooting stuff and keep posting it here!

I think night time was a pretty bad place to do a test shoot for video - it's going to be noisy by default (sort of). The images look great, by the way.

The noise is because of the lens and settings, with correct lens (f1.4 or lower) and correctly set up you can get some pretty amazing stuff.

I don't know what kind of budget you have or if you're even in the market for a good lens, but Sigma makes a GREAT 30mm f/1.4 lens.

I have one for my Cannon and it's just an awesome glass.
They're kinda spendy though, at about $450.

I picked up a Nikon equivalent lens today, and did a quick test with the correct settings for low light, lets just say it's the difference of night and day. I'll post the test vid later.

Alrighty, new blog post above this one has the new lens and you can see what the right lens and settings can produce in low light.

That takes me back. Went up to Griffith Observatory about 10 years ago when I lived in Redondo Beach. Looks like it hasn't changed much.
